Hello! My name is John Lin, and I'm a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania. Welcome to my website! This is a collection of projects and experiences that I’ve enjoyed. I’m interested in clinical and policy interventions for nutritional insecurity, homelessness, and healthcare access in the United States. With my background as a CDC-trained data scientist, I’ve published over 80 peer-reviewed reports in leading journals such as The Lancet, JAMA Health Forum, American Journal of Public Health. I co-authored the book, “The Medical Student’s Field Guide to Research,” published by the Johns Hopkins University Press, and I am an incoming Associate Editor for the Journal of General Internal Medicine. My work has been supported by 20+ grants totaling over $120,000 and been featured in Wall Street Journal, CNN, and USA Today. I proposed, wrote, and unanimously passed legislation against hate crimes in the Texas House of Representatives, receiving a commendation for public service from the Texas Legislature and served as legislative consultant on bipartisan legislation to regulate the usage of artificial intelligence in health insurance utilization reviews in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Additionally, I was elected and served on the Governing Council of the Texas Public Health Association in 2022-2023. At Penn, I have served on the board of directors of the Homeless Outreach Project, helping run our mobile street medicine program. My academic journey began at Brown University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science with honors in Neurobiology and Health Systems and Policy. I was named a Harry S. Truman Scholar and recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Outside of school, you can find me jogging in city parks or calling & catching up with my friends. If you share any of my interests, I’d love to chat!
